Sheet Metal Fabrication for Artists with Don Cronin

This two day ‘hands on’ workshop explored a wide variety of metal construction techniques including cutting, welding and riveting. Focusing on introducing and understanding the many useful metalworking machines and processes available at the National Sculpture Factory, the aim was to familiarise participants so they were able to design and fabricate useful objects and structures in metal.

Starting with some fundamentals on the first morning of the workshop, participants explored the wide range of processes and methods available in the workshop through making, and on the second day participants worked on their personal projects all the while getting professional advice and guidance from an experienced tutor.

Don Cronin is Cork based sculptor with thirty years’ experience.  His work is characterised by an emphasis on construction and has been described by the Irish Times as ‘elegantly industrial’.  He typically works stainless steel, aluminium and bronze, both cast and fabricated. Don recently won the Irish Contemporary Art Society award for sculpture at the RHA annual exhibition.
