Building Structures in Porcelain Clay with Nuala O’Donovan

This workshop taught the basic skills needed to create a small wall piece(s) using 3D patterns in unglazed porcelain, and concentrated on the development of ideas in three-dimensions. The patterns created by participants were used to create pieces with flat bases suitable for hanging and participants concentrated on exploration and experimentation simply having fun exploring ideas.

Nuala O’Donovan uses porcelain clay as a medium for conceptually grounded sculpture. She makes complex work in porcelain clay that explore the geometry and patterns of natural forms. She trained at Middlesex University and CCAD in Cork, Ireland, completing an MA in 2008. She worked as a lecturer in the Design Studio for a number of years at CIT Cork and as a guest lecturer in universities in Ireland and internationally.
