Percent for Art opportunity
Presentation Secondary School, Milltown, Killarney
Call for expressions of interest
National Sculpture Factory invites artists to submit proposals for a two stage open competition to create a permanent artwork to be located at Presentation Secondary School, Milltown, Killarney, Co. Kerry.
Presentation Secondary School, Milltown, Killarney is a Catholic school, which aspires to the full development of all its members according to Christian principles as outlined in the CEIST Charter (Catholic Education An Irish Schools Trust). Every effort is made to ensure that each student develops according to his/her talents and potential: physically, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually.
Inbuilt structures and procedures in the daily life of the school offer the students’ opportunities to develop personal initiative and responsibility, together with a questioning mind, which will help them assess, with a critical eye, the wide and varied values of the world they live in today. In school they also learn the importance of personal commitment, punctuality, regular attendance, planning for the future and working as a team.
Themes artists might like to consider in the design include:
In light of the legacy of Nano Nagle and Edmund Rice, key figures in the development of education in Ireland, Presentation Secondary School Milltown would like the artwork to symbolise their commitment to education, social justice, and their Catholic ethos, values central to the School’s mission. The commissioned artwork will serve as a permanent feature inspiring students, staff, and the wider community.
The budget for this commission is €40,000.
The successful artist will be responsible for the design and creation of the artwork including final installation within the budget. The budget is to include VAT, all artists design fees, expenses, material insurances, production and manufacturing, engineer’s reports, any relevant consultations and installation fees, transport costs, and other necessary fees in order to finalise the installation of the piece.
