This two-day welding course was designed to introduce participants to different welding processes including Arc, MIG and TIG. It focused on basic welding joints and fabrication introducing proper health and safety practices. The workshop included an introduction to cutting and grinding techniques and uses of hacksaw; files; drills; hammers; grinders; chop-saw; sanders; the various types of welding Arc, MIG and TIG including different weld joints – butt weld, lap weld and T-fillet. Participants were shown how to measure and cut steel accurately. Participants worked to a set or designed projects, articulating responses from concept, design to realisation. The course for artists was aimed at beginners and no experience is required.
Michael O’Hara is an artist and lecturer in sculpture at Dublin Institute of Technology. O’Hara has shown extensively within Ireland and is a well-known expert in metal fabrication techniques.
