Joy McAllen was born in Cork. She received her NCEA Diploma in Fine Art from the Crawford College of Art and Design. She works primarily as a stained glass artist and works on both private and public commissions.
She has completed stained glass panels for churches, public houses, schools and private residences and is presently working on a church commission for two 6ft decorative panels for Saleen Church Aghada, East Cork.
“I took an interest in stained glass in 2002 as I walked into the Díseart Centre in Dingle and was transfixed by the beauty of Harry Clarke’s stained glass windows. That day I knew that I wanted to work in this fascinating medium. I love the way the light is diffused through the coloured glass and how it can transform the interior of a building both visually and atmospherically”.
