This two-day welding course is designed to introduce participants to different welding processes including Arc, MIG and TIG welding. It will focus on basic welding joints and fabrication introducing proper health and safety practices. The workshop will include an introduction to cutting and grinding techniques and uses of hacksaw; files; drills; hammers; grinders; chop-saw; sanders; the various types of welding Arc, MIG and TIG including different weld joints – butt weld, lap weld and T-fillet. Participants will be shown how to measure and cut steel accurately. Participants will work through set or designed projects, articulating responses from concept, design to realisation.
The course is for artists and is aimed at beginners where no previous experience is required. Intermediate skillset can also be accommodated.

Michael O’Hara is an artist, workshop manager at the Fire Station Studios and a lecturer in sculpture at Dublin Institute of Technology. O’Hara has shown extensively within Ireland and has many years experience working with metal fabrication techniques.
