Francis Shier is an emerging architect with a process driven creative practice, with an interest in investigating what the practice of architecture can be if it sits in the broader cultural landscape between art and architecture.
Francis took up a residency in the National Sculpture Factory in November 2013 after graduating with distinction from CCAE Cork School of Architecture(UCC/CIT) . Francis has delivered projects ranging from furniture for a Montessori school to an Installation’s, (symposium – Dreams of Freedom as part of United States of Europe exhibition) in the Crawford Art Gallery Cork.
During his time at the Sculpture Factory Francis has undertaken and submitted design proposals in Cork, Dublin ,Lisbon and Salt Lake City, Utah. Francis has been involved in the curation of exhibitions in Cork and Dublin, and is currently collaborating on the design of exhibitions for Istanbul Design Week 2013 and the Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2013.
Francis has recently been awarded the 2 stage commission for a sculpture and landscape proposal at Star of the Sea National
school to be completed in January 2014.
